Written in the classical Quaestiones genre, this book asks questions about three equivalence theories of translation (semantic equivalence, dynamic equivalence, and deverbalization), three Descriptive Translation Studies theories (norms, laws, and narratoriality), and the quest for the translator's visibility.

Why is it important?
There are a lot of unanswered questions at the core of even the most intensively studied approaches to translation, and this book begins to ask and answer them.
Perspectives
The book was born out of a teaching situation: teaching Anthony Pym's Exploring Translation Theories to my MA students at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen--teaching it for the fifth or sixth time!--I kept stumbling on questions that Pym asked but didn't answer, or asked but answered only superficially, or that seemed to be crying out for an answer but I couldn't think of an answer on the spot.
