What is it about?
This research shows how boards of directors form coalitions to decide the type of acquisitions to make, making it one of the first studies to demonstrate the politics of decision making for such an important strategic move. Because the coalitions were decided by the experience of the decision makers, it also shows that directors try to repeat the actions they are good at, whether or not they are appropriate. The research is from the market transition in China, using all listed firms.
