What is it about?
By regular monitoring as well as early and efficient use of airway clearance, unplanned hospital admissions can be reduced for patients with neuromuscular disease (NMD) and spinal cord injury (SCI). In this study, we describe and compare the knowledge of guidelines, monitoring of cough effectiveness, clinician prescription/provision of airway clearance strategies as well as service provisions in the UK and Canada.

Why is it important?
Our findings showed a moderate awareness of guideline recommendations related to cough effectiveness monitoring in clinicians in Canada and the United Kingdom. Our findings showed variable cough effectiveness and airway clearance practices through the surveys conducted in Canada and UK. based on our findings, we can confirm that there is a need for further work on knowledge translation related to guideline recommendations as well as a need to address common constraints when delivering services.
