What is it about?
Small deformation assumptions impose limitations on traditional, industrial aeroelastic approaches, particularly in the study of the effects of gusts on aircraft structures. We show how as the aspect ratio of a wing increases, the effects of large deformations of the aircraft dynamics becomes more important. We also show that modelling the physics correctly can also affect lower aspect ratio wings in a way that was not previously thought to be significant.
