What is it about?
The article is about the creation of a new but classic colorful three-dimensional mental rotation test (CMRT) for children which works because it has an optimal Gestalt of a 4-cube aggregate. We tested a large sample of 100 school children and controlled for their intelligence using the Colored Raven Progressive Intelligence Test. We also used the Raven to validate the new mental rotation test which showed some shared variance.

Why is it important?
In all previous research, two-dimensional pictures rotated on a picture plane worked better than the classic Shepard and Metzler three-dimensional cube aggregates. We can show that three-dimensional rotations of three-dimensional objects work with children as long as the aggregate is not more complex than four elements.
Perspectives
We are working on creating psychometric norms for this test and are currently looking for a publisher.
