Eggs in an egg sac of Hynobius nigrescens had nearly 100% fertilizability even after 3 hour-long immersion in the water. This finding is a contradiction against the traditional view that the fertilizability of eggs of fresh-water fishes and amphibians is lost within a few minutes after depositing in the water.
