What is it about?

This is a 15-item scale to measure social media jealousy experienced by others. This phenomenon involves comparing, competing, and pulling down others for the sake of securing the attention of others.

Why is it important?

Previously, many researchers have used the Facebook Jealousy Scale which measures this only in the context of Facebook. However, the Social Media Jealousy Scale (SMJS-15) is a 15-item scale that can be used to measure jealousy across multiple social media platforms. Most importantly, it has been published in an open-access platform and can be used by anyone for free.

Perspectives

Ever since its publication, many people have expressed the usefulness of this scale. I believe this scale will be helpful to understand yet another important dimension of the impact of social media on the mental health of its users.
