What is it about?

Starting from the classical Hall effects, this review first introduces the technique how to apply quantum mechanics to study a Hall effect in two dimensions. Then various quantum Hall effects and topological invariants existence in them are introduced.

Why is it important?

Topological materials, which can date back to the quantum Hall effects, is a highly popular topic in condensed matter physics. However, most textbooks of college physics introduce only the knowledge of classical Hall effects, failing to extend the scope to the latest progress of modern quantum and topological physics. This paper severs as an attempt to fill the gap.
