What is it about?
Recent tools for jet noise prediction use modeled wavepacket structures that approximate coherent flow features in the jet. These wavepackets are not yet defined in a unique way, nor do they necessarily represent radiated acoustic waves in all scenarios. We develop a universal variable for wavepacket structures in turbulent jets, that efficiently captures the radiated sound component. This is then used to model sound emissions from a subsonic jet.
