What is it about?

Boundary-layer transition has a big impact on the efficiency of helicopter rotor blades. So far it is not clear whether the effect of rotational forces has to be considered when modeling the phenomenon. We present an experimental approach where we systematically varied the contribution of rotational forces and measured the effect on boundary-layer transition. We further show a comparison between experimental data at a specific radial blade section and numerical solutions based on two-dimensional flow assumptions.
