Why is it important?
This study provides timely insights into independent midwives' use of telehealth services during the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia. It explores influential factors and attitudes that impacted their adoption of telehealth when in-person services were restricted. These findings could inform policies and guidelines to support wider telehealth implementation for maternal healthcare in Indonesia and similar contexts, especially given telehealth's benefits found in this study
Perspectives

I wanted to gain a deeper understanding of how independent midwives were utilizing and perceiving telehealth services for maternal healthcare during an unprecedented time when in-person consultations were restricted. This qualitative study gave me the opportunity to speak directly with midwives about their experiences and attitudes towards adopting telehealth during the pandemic. I was struck by midwives' dedication to supporting mothers despite fears around COVID-19 risks and practice viability concerns. Their perspectives highlighted important considerations around telehealth implementation more broadly, including factors like age, digital literacy, infrastructure availability and personal motivations. Conducting this research reaffirmed my respect for midwives as frontline healthcare providers. I hope these findings can contribute to informed policies and guidelines for sustaining telehealth in Indonesia where appropriate, especially given the benefits shared by many midwives in this study
