What is it about?

In recent years, technological developments have peaked; more and more technologies are being introduced frequently and implemented into various sectors through applications not previously imagined. The Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) are two technologies that have significantly impacted several industries such as Healthcare, Military, Transport, Construction, etc. As we know, on the one hand, construction sites are one of the most happening industries in this era due to significant developments like intelligent infrastructure, smart cities, etc. in the other hand, the construction industry is known for its complex and hazardous work environments which as a result are prone to numerous safety hazards and risk factors that can result in accidents, injuries, or even fatalities. Traditional monitoring and risk assessment approaches often fall short of providing real-time insights. However, by implementing cutting-edge technology stacks like IoT and AI, real-time site monitoring and risk assessment have become achievable, allowing construction companies to address potential dangers and improve safety measures proactively.

Why is it important?

Utilizing IoT and AI allows for continuous monitoring of construction sites, providing real-time data on various parameters such as structural integrity, environmental conditions, and worker safety. This helps in identifying potential hazards and mitigating risks before they escalate. AI algorithms can analyze data to predict potential risks and failures, improving the ability to proactively address safety concerns and prevent accidents. IoT devices facilitate automated and accurate data collection, reducing the need for manual inspections and allowing for more efficient site management.

Perspectives

This perspective examines how IoT devices (such as sensors, cameras, and wearables) are utilized to collect real-time data from construction sites. It explores how these devices monitor various parameters like environmental conditions, equipment status, and worker safety. It focuses on how AI algorithms analyze data collected from IoT devices to detect patterns, predict potential issues, and automate decision-making processes. The review would cover methods for real-time data collection from construction sites, including the types of data gathered and how it's processed and analyzed.
