What is it about?
Type 2 diabetes is a serious disease which can be acquired by being overweight for too long. It is known that a person’s genetic background affects the chance to develop diabetes. In our new bioinformatics approach we use what we already know about the biological processes in which the affected genes occur to better understand the disease.

Why is it important?
We combined and analyzed data from multiple sources to see how variations act in concert. In this manner we retrieved novel insights about the molecular mechanism, which allows us to improve both diagnostics and prevention. Moreover, our newly developed method can be applied to other complex diseases where genetic aspects are involved .
