What is it about?

Increase of oral absorption of an oily drug (AL-294) by an emulsion dosage fom.

Why is it important?

AL-294 is a prodrug of AL-294 acid ethyl ester and has a lipophilic characteristic (oil). Therefore, dissolution is rate-limiting to the oral absorption of this compound. An emlusion dosage form can increase the oral absorption of an oily drug, depending on the size of emulsion.

Perspectives

Based on this study, a self-emulsifying dosafe form of AL-294 was developed (Chem Pharm Bull. 38:2792-6 (1990)).
