What is it about?

The study compared metacognitive therapy (MCT) with the gold standard treatment CBT, in patients with generalized anxiety disorder. We found that MCT was superior to CBT in most domains, with significant improvement in 85% of the patients.

Why is it important?

In health care the treatments of GAD has not been effective, with less than 50% of the patients with complete or partial recovery. Now the new treatment of GAD called MCT has significantly increased the effectiveness of therapy of GAD, thus GAD has become a disorder that can be treated successfully in most patients.

Perspectives

The study shows that major improvement have happened in the area of GAD for the first time in 25 years, and the study is an important contribution to treatment of psychological disorders.
