What is it about?
We interviewed VA staff who work with veterans involved in the criminal-legal system to understand these veterans access to services that can keep them out of the legal system. These staff reported that justice-involved veterans generally have access to alcohol and drug treatment services but did not have access in VA to treatments to change criminal thinking.

Why is it important?
This study highlighted a key gap in care for justice-involved veterans and prompted the VA to increase training of its staff in treatments that focus on helping Veterans change behaviors that increase their likelihood of breaking the law.
