What is it about?

In a climate of enhanced global competition, attention for economic diplomacy has substantially grown. This book makes sense of it, and adds to a better understanding of its central place in international relations.

Why is it important?

This book's perspective merits follow-up. It is suprising that the study of economic diplomacy is still a relatively small niche in a world challenged by economic conflict, trade wars, and challenges to economic governance as we know it. This book can be seen as a platform for much-needed analysis and exchange of ideas between people prepared to cross disciplinary boundaries.

Perspectives

My role in this project has been a minor one and I learned a lot from my co-editors, who approach economic diplomacy from the perspectives of economics and international political economy. This paper is based on a special issue of The Hague Journal of Diplomacy, with the added feature of a detailed index.
