What is it about?

This paper focuses on some features of the late-Tsarist Saint Petersburg's extremely rich and cosmopolitan milieu in which many Russian and Western collectors, dealers, experts and artists bought, sold, analysed or restored many capital European Renaissance and Baroque paintings and statues that are now placed in Russia, Europe or America.

Why is it important?

There are many hints that can help scholars to fill some gaps in the provenance research on some European Old Master masterpieces placed in many Russian, European or American collections.

Perspectives

Research on the formation and the dispersal of our cultural heritage has always been very important for me. It makes me feel part of an international community of researchers that try to pass on our ancestor's best to the next generation.
