What is it about?

When you think, "I've been teary-eyed lately," do you imagine that there are many eyelashes stuck in the drainage channel (lacrimal duct) where tears drain from the eyes to the nose? By inserting a dacryoendoscope with a diameter of only 1 mm into the lacrimal duct, we were able to find the lashes, unclog them, and cure the teary eyes.

Why is it important?

We were able to show that large number of eyelashes in the lacrimal duct can lead to teary eyes and that the condition can be visualized with the dacryoendoscope, and that foreign bodies can be removed without major surgery such as dacryocystorhinostomy.

Perspectives

I have been using the dacryoendoscope for many years to treat lacrimal duct obstruction, but this is the first time I have seen a large number of eyelashes in the lacrimal duct. I would love for people around the world to know that this kind of thing can happen.
