What is it about?
This paper is about finding out how many women participate in HPC conferences (High-performance computing). We found that only about 10% of researchers in the field are women, with some variance based on country of origin, conference role, and work sector. We also found that female authors are cited a little less and reach higher experience metrics (publications, h-index) at lower rates.

Why is it important?
The large gender gap in computer science research in general and HPC in particular has large detrimental effects on gender equality, the economy, and the quality of the science itself. But we cannot improve what we cannot measure. The analysis and open data in this paper can serve as a starting point for future research and improvements of the gender gap in this influential field.
