What is it about?
Results of platelet counting in blood may be different, due to analyser technology. In patients with very low platelet counts these differences can lead to inappropriate decisions regarding platelet transfusion. We compared two different analyzers and a reference platelet counting method and showed that platalet transfusions may be withheld from patients due to incorrect counting results.
