What is it about?

Ectomycorrhizal (ECM) fungi ordinarily colonize trees and can protect them from above-ground insect herbivory. We found that ECM fungi can also protect the model plant Arabidopsis from insect herbivory, and that this protection is the results of plant perception of fungal chitin.
