What is it about?
Assembly of the inner and outer coat of Bacillus subtilis spores is governed by SafA and CotE, which recruit the inner and outer coat proteins to the developing spore. Encasement of the spore by the coat layers require binding of SafA and CotE to a region of 12 residues in the encasement protein SpoVID. Despite the proximity and partial overlap of the binding sites in SpoVID, the inner and outer coat modules are largely independent.
