What is it about?

Ferroelectric is a material with turnable dipoles. When the dipoles are in parallel direction under the action of electric field, they couple together to form domains, and become less disordering to decrease entropy. The changes of dipoles in various directions of 3D ferroelectrics, turning of diploes (reorientation), and coupling will produce thermal effect to give rise to electrocaloric effect. The paper derived these effects in theory and compared with experimental results.

Why is it important?

Turning of dipoles in ferroelectrics can be used in electrocaloric effect.

Perspectives
