What is it about?
There is a saying in China that "it takes a thousand days to raise soldiers, but one time to fight". The intestinal bacteria are not only the “commensal diners”. They can interact with the host under inflammatory conditions, help clean up the metabolic waste after the inflammatory reaction, and stabilize the intestinal environment by producing beneficial phenylpropanoids. In this paper, the authors reached the above conclusion by comparing the different omics characteristics of two lines of hybrid chickens inoculated with Salmonella Enteritidis.

Why is it important?
We identified 12 species of symbiotic bacteria that might contribute to the stability of chicken intestinal environment by producing probiotic phenylpropanoids. In fact, our results intensified an immunology consensus: intestinal microbiota is involved in the host's anti-infection response.
