What is it about?

Space-time analysis of community composition data

Why is it important?

Variation in species composition throughout a study area is called beta diversity by researchers. This review focuses on the study of beta diversity along time and shows how to carry out the analyses, using recently proposed statistical methods called Moran’s eigenvector maps (MEM) and new indices called local contributions to beta diversity (LCBD). These methods are applied for the first time to temporal series of ecological observations. Illustration: Chesapeake Bay bentos survey data.
