What is it about?
Typically, microbes do not live isolated but rather in communities of microscopic (e.g. on skin) and also macroscopic scale (e.g. biofilms on oceans). These microbial communities are highly complex and therefore difficult to examine experimentally. In this review, we discuss current computational approaches that improve our understanding of how these systems are organized.
