What is it about?

This research developed a new tool to help professionals better understand and support the needs of families with children who have hearing loss. Families often struggle to get the right information and support during the early stages after diagnosis. Using a behaviour change theory, the researchers identified that a key solution was to introduce a structured Needs Assessment Tool. This tool helps professionals ask the right questions and provide personalised guidance to families.

Why is it important?

Early support is important for families with children diagnosed with hearing loss, as it can improve the child’s development and communication outcomes. However, many families report gaps in the information and support they receive. This new tool ensures families are better supported by identifying their unique needs early and improving family-centred care. By helping professionals provide clearer and more personalised guidance, this tool has the potential to make a significant difference in the lives of these families.
