What is it about?
The links are the generalization of knots, i.e. they are entangled set of circles. Such complex topology as it turned out can be also identified in proteins. In particular, there are three types of links in proteins. These have a great impact on the stability of proteins and are strictly conserved by evolution.

Why is it important?
The existence of links in proteins explains, how topology increases the stability of proteins. This can be used in the design of superstable proteins.
