What is it about?
Good design of sample holders for reflection measurements with neutrons can improve results. The details of a flexible system that can be used for many solid/liquid interface studies is described.

Why is it important?
The solid/liquid interface is attracting wide interest for studies in chemistry, physics and engineering. A modular optimised design that is suitable for many experiments can be used. Choice of appropriate masks gives much reduced background.
Perspectives

Experience as to how samples are prepared and used is important in design of equipment such as that described in the paper. Ease of alignment, ready cleaning and flexibility to permit a broad range of experiments are all important criteria.
