Why is it important?
Several studies have shown that Black people turn to the Black church in times of crises. However, no study has specifically looked at the church's response as an organization to helping people cope after a traumatic event.
Perspectives

This article provides empirical support for that which has been intuitive to many. The Black Church has had a long history in the USA and this study offers a contemporary example of its role in helping individuals navigate trauma. This study may serve as a foundation for future studies to explore the various types of traumas experienced by Black communities and the ways in which community organizations address trauma.
