What is it about?
This article is about what we mean by a good psychotherapist. But empirical research cannot make clear what we mean by character traits, so we need philosophy to make that clear. Philosophy and science ought to work together to develop good psychotherapists.

Why is it important?
This paper is important for all who want to talk to a good psychotherapist, want to become a good psychotherapist or want to teach, train and supervise good psychotherapists.
Perspectives

In my own life I experience the importance of character in confidential conversations on a daily basis. Every week I have the privilege of conversing with people on their confidences and their challenges to the living they desire. I also teach and supervise students and practitioners on character traits. So, this paper grows out of practical and personal relevance.
