What is it about?
In this article I use qualitative research strategies to understand how first-time protesters in Puerto Rico experienced the 2019 protests. During the protests they developed a sense of community and the importance of non-violent action in order to voice their discontent.

Why is it important?
This article highlights the importance of understanding how first-time protesters view their activism. I focused on what Michel Foucault called subjection to understand the ethical norms they constructed for themselves during the 2019 protests.
Perspectives

In this article I was able to further explore the narratives of first-time protesters. Understanding these experiences are essential in order to engage in meaningful dialogue about ongoing social justice efforts.
