What is it about?
This study focuses on the goal of increasing the renewable energy share in electricity generation aiming to meet the 2030 targets. It assesses the potential for European countries to enhance their progress toward these targets and examines their success in achieving their National Energy and Climate Plan objectives. The study forecasts how close these countries are to reaching their goals and identifies possible improvements. It concludes that by adopting strategies from top-performing countries, European countries could boost their renewable energy performance by 1.65% by 2030 without the need for additional policy changes. This research offers valuable insights for policymakers to craft more effective strategies and for utility companies to develop industrial plans

Why is it important?
Achieving renewable energy targets and adopting strategies from best-performing countries are crucial for mitigating climate change, enhancing energy security, and stimulating economic growth. By reducing reliance on fossil fuels, countries can decrease greenhouse gas emissions, ensuring a healthier environment. Furthermore, diversifying energy sources strengthens resilience against energy supply disruptions and reduces the volatility of energy prices. Economic benefits also arise from job creation in the renewable sector and technological innovation.
