What is it about?
Occupational physical activity (OPA) is the most dominant forms of physical activity (PA) between all of the domains. The demands of working environment dominate, often without taking into account of the health of workers. Leisure-time physical activity (LTPA) is performed at intensity levels high enough, but over relatively short time periods and enough of recovery periods. Additionally, LTPA has several health benefits. We explored the the relationship between LTPA and work ability in different OPA levels between 921 young adult Finnish men.

Why is it important?
Our study adds value to the importance of LTPA, particularly in occupations that are physically demanding. As reported previously, individual factors (such as aging and lack of LTPA) may be associated with midlife transition and increased risk of retirement due to disability.
