What is it about?
This chapter examines the growth and development of the archives and records management profession (ARM) in Africa, as well as some of the challenges it currently confronts. It highlights how Africa's colonial history has shaped the immediate post-colonial developments within ARM, particularly focusing on education and training approaches. Moreover, this chapter investigates various global initiatives undertaken by African professionals such as the work done by the International Records Management Trust and research conducted through projects like InterPARES Research Project. Furthermore, survey data from one of these InterPARES studies is discussed to illustrate complex issues that ARM professionals continue to encounter on the continent.
