What is it about?
A low-cost wave flume that can simulate realistic hydrodynamic conditions in aquatic ecosystems was developed, allowing for longer-term replicated experiments. The system can generate regular and irregular waves to study interactions between wave dynamics and benthic organisms, sediment, and hydrodynamics. This is particularly useful for biogeomorphology and aquatic ecology research.

Why is it important?
This study provides a cost-effective solution for studying wave dynamics in aquatic ecosystems, which can have implications for understanding how organisms interact with their environment. This low-cost wave flume can help increase the accessibility of wave mesocosm experiments and improve our understanding of complex ecological systems.
