What is it about?

Brief review of our work (1995 onward) on arene interactions (parallel mode) based on pyrazolo[3,4-d]pyrimidines and related heterocycles using flexible linkers like propylene, ethylene and butylidene. Most of these compounds show folded conformations.

Why is it important?

Our work demonstrates that simple 1,3-diaryl-alkanes can exist in folded conformation both in solution and solid due mainly to arene interactions. Even 1,2-diaryl-alkanes can exist in folded conformation both in solution and solid due mainly to arene interactions.

Perspectives

Simplest possible models for understanding of arene interactions found in DNA and drug-receptor complexes.
