What is it about?
We synthesized organic-inorganic composites based on poly(methyl methacrylate) contained zirconia nanoparticles. According to luminescence and XRD methods, the dependence of photoluminescent spectra of ZrO2‐EuO1.5 nanoparticles on the content of lanthanide, the symmetry of the crystal field, surface treatment and the polymer matrix were established.

Why is it important?
We found out that in Eu(III) photoluminescence spectra, the crystal field symmetry around Eu(III) is manifested. The significant finding is that Stark splitting in luminescence spectra of ZrO2‐EuO1.5 nanoparticles is sensitive to phase composition. This result is important in organo-inorganic design when one wants to functionalize composite materials.
Perspectives

Composing this article was a great satisfaction as it needs some collaboration with chemists who occurred to be skilled enough to come to an end in the synthesis of the organic-inorganic composites under investigation.
