What is it about?

Poor mental health in autism is traditionally thought to have been inevitable. This study shows that poor mental health and higher psychological distress is linked with discrimination and victimsation in the autistic population. This suggests that poor mental health is preventable.

Why is it important?

There is the potential for this to inform the way in which we treat poor mental health in the autistic population. Rather than continually focusing on the autistic individuals themselves, it suggests that more societal action to tackle discrimination is necceary.
