What is it about?

In this Commentary for The American Journal of Psychiatry Special Issue on Psychedelics, the authors identify many understudied areas in the current wave of psychedelic research. Though the research is progressing rapidly, the authors highlight how the voices of important stakeholders—such as psychotherapists, patients, and individuals from diverse cultures and communities—have not been centered in academic research or public dialogues. The article urges the reader to consider the scientific and ethical implications of such a narrow research program, and urges the scientific community to broaden the scope of questions it’s willing to ask, and the answers it’s willing to hear.
