Synthesis of 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinolinium derivative and its crystal structure

What is it about?

A 1-(1-Chloroethyl)-6,7-dimethoxy-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline was synthesised by mixing homoveratrylamine with lactic acid.It was found that the compound forms racemic crystals containing both RR and SS isomers, which were confirmed using X-ray analysis.
