What is it about?

The paper takes a step back and looks at the fundamentals of diffraction theory and how it applies from x-rays to electrons. here we show, thanks to modern computer developments, how it is possible to use the more complex dynamical scattering theory for structure solution.

Why is it important?

The validity of a structure is often attributed to the R statistics which takes into account the model used. Therefore to accurately present the high quality solutions a model which is accurate is required.

Perspectives

Whilst the area of this work is not the first of its kind it provides a fundamental basis for more detailed and thorough investigations, it is inevitable for the need of dynamical scattering modeling to be used routinely in the future and so it stands that our understanding should be strong and robust.
