What is it about?
With X-rays it is possible to see how the atoms are arranged in three dimensions in the proteins, DNA and other molecules by growing crystals of these molecules and using a method called "crystallography". This helps to understand how biology works and is an important method when developing new medicines.

Why is it important?
This publication describes BioMAX, the first such experiment setup at the MAX IV Laboratory and therefore the first at a new generation X-ray sources making it the most modern "macromolecular crystallography beamline" when it came in operation.
Perspectives

About 15 years after the planning started of the beamline, and nearly 10 years after the detailed work started, it is fantastic to see BioMAX delivering science and becoming an important resource for both academia and pharmaceutical industry!
