What is it about?
Is there anything that translation theory can gain from localization? Can localization theory learn anything from the history and complexity of translation? To address those questions, both terms are placed within a more general frame, that of text transfer.

Why is it important?
The localization industry has developed workflows and concepts that are significantly different from those of traditional models of translation. This book attempts to say exactly what those differences are.
Perspectives
This book started as a re-write of by 1992 book on text transfer, then gradually became something quite different. I think it finishes up dissolving localization into a generalized materialist view of the way cross-cultural communication operates.
