What is it about?

The foundation of the Spanish Translation and Interpreting Students Association (AETI) has lead to the development of some competences related to problem solving, interpersonal relationships, critical thinking, project management, etc among the members of the association. Members who collaborate a lot with the association tend to develop these competences to a greater extent. Compared to students who are not members of this associations, members also develop these competences to a greater extent. This means that the acquisition of personal, attitudinal and instrumental competences related to translation does not finish in class, since they can be further developed when collaborating with this association.

Why is it important?

This article proves that being a member of a students association benefits the development of many competences that will be very important for students when they enter the translation labour market.

Perspectives

I believe that this research can help us understand that training does not finish in the classroom - students can develop their competences outside the classroom by collaborating with other students in an association.
