“El rey recibe: Intertextualidad y Percepción de la Historia Reciente”

What is it about?

El rey recibe presents, under a layer of appa-rent simplicity, a double coding made of for-ty nine intertextual quotations –from writers historians, psychiatrists, reverends, carols, magazines and posters– which complement the text. They remind us of the hybrid natu-re of the novel whilst inviting us to unmask the apparent objectivity of historical dis-course and to explore the problematic nature of knowledge. The aim of this article is to analyze the role of these quotations as pie-ces of a textual collage which questions what we think to know about the Spanish Transi-tion. In the process, the reader is prompted to approach this “faction”, a mixture of “fic-tion” and “facts” with new eyes
