What is it about?

Based on two cases of pro-creative office design, this chapter shows that this form of open spatial landscaping may undermine the spontaneous interaction and creativity that it was initially intended to foster, and instead lead to subversive practices through which its incumbents express alternative forms of creativity. More specifically, the paper suggests that greater spatial openness may inhibit difference and originality and thwart ‘liberation’ from conventions and habits as employees re-invoke spatial and social structures and boundaries.
