This study examines the grammatical resources speakers of Niger-Congo languages, spoken in Sub-Sahara Africa, use to negotiate and interact in exchange.

Why is it important?
The study is an important contribution to the study of African languages and the typology of mood systems. Studies on African languages have largely neglected the resources that speakers use realise exchange and negotiate roles in discourse. The present study feels this gap.
