What is it about?
This opening chapter will use one of the key tools of public health in understanding and framing problems: prevalence. To set the scene, rates of sexual harassment and bullying will be established as a way of framing the emergence of #MeToo as the only reporting route many women feel is open to them. The range of behaviours and definitions will be considered. Some critique of historically framing the resulting inaccurate prevalence data will be included. The data will be located within the theoretical framework of gender inequality but will not overtly cover theory, it will lead us to the next chapter around understanding the patterns of prevalence within different groups and what this means about inequality.
